Launch of the UfM Gas Platform working group (videoconference) on “The role of gases fuel and hydrogen in the Mediterranean area”

On 17 April 2023, the Secretariat of the UfM Gas Platform launched through videoconference a new working group (WG) dedicated to “The role of gases fuel and hydrogen in the Mediterranean area”. This task is divided into four sub groups/studies; Task 3.1 on the role of gases fuel for achieving a sustainable low carbon transport system, Task 3.2 on contribution to creating a hydrogen partnership between the Mediterranean and the EU, Task 3.3 on contribution to the development of the hydrogen market in the Med. region, and Task 3.4 on repurposing the natural gas infrastructure to accommodate Hydrogen.

These studies will look at the key benefits, barriers and uncertainties as well as relevant challenges for the role of gases fuel and hydrogen in Mediterranean energy transition. They will focus mainly on the South Mediterranean countries as several topics that constitute this lot have already been well studied for the EU countries. The aim of the meeting was to discuss and fix the contents of the reports within the UfM Gas Platform 2023 activities.
